You can’t just write about flowers
She said
And as she hugged me goodbye
I thought of forget-me-nots
And when three days of rain
Blurred my sky
The brilliant orange poppies
Made my day full sun
Yesterday I heard bad news
And ran outside to find
Anything in bloom
You can’t just write about flowers -
Another hug
A less acquainted kind
Held me hungrily
As though I were a lifeline
And all my flowers
Rushed into my mind
A gardenful -
Of prayers
